Getting Noticed 2010/05/18 No Comments

So I spent a good part of the day today trying to figure out the best way to get my blog on the radar of the big G — Google. I’ve submitted my URL to them, however I know that it can take many weeks before their spider will actually make it out to my site to index it. I’ve read some things here or there that suggest that if I get a link to my site out there on a page with a high Google PageRank (PR), then it’s highly likely that the spider will index my site sooner rather than later.

The first step is the hardest… No Comments

Day 2 on my adventures towards making money online. The first order of business is of course: finding a domain name and a webhost. Clearly I already have both of those for this blog; I am the owner of skulegirl.ca, which I’ve had for a few years now. I registered it through www.budgetnames.ca, which happens to be owned by my friend Paul. As for where skulegirl.ca is hosted… well, my friend Paul has also kindly hosted the site for me — for free, as a favour. Here goes, first post. Expectations are high. Okay, only my expectations, because I haven’t told anyone that I’m doing this blog yet. I had the idea last night while I was lying in bed, nursing my little 8.5 month old son.

I’ve been on maternity leave for almost 9.5 months now. Typical me, I have started probably half a dozen different projects during that time. All of them include learning something new, because I’m sort of obsessed with reading and learning. Some projects have been abandoned, some are still in progress. But the one project that I really want to have take off is my most recent (outside of this blog, which I guess is really my most recent). My mother and I are going to work together to build a website, based on an idea that she’s had for a long time. The exact nature of the website is still top-secret unfortunately. But my mom’s pretty convinced that it’s got a decent revenue model and can earn a decent income, and she’s done her research in the field.
